FACT CHECKED

At Exl Dentist, we understand the importance of clear communication with our patients. That’s why, when it comes to cleaning and polishing, we believe in “No Bad Surprises.”

Here’s what you can expect during your appointment:

  • 1.Scaling, which is the cleaning of teeth above the gums, is generally a pain-free procedure. However, to ensure maximum comfort, we will apply an anaesthetic gel or spray on the gums to numb them.

  • 2.There may be some pinpoint bleeding during the scaling process, particularly if you have swollen gums or a significant amount of calculus (hard tartar) on your teeth.

  • 3.During the scaling process, you will only feel slight vibrations from the scaler. The procedure typically lasts between 20-45 minutes, depending on the severity of your deposits.

  • 4.In some cases, a second appointment may be necessary for cleaning, but often it can be completed in a single visit.

  • 5.After scaling, your gums will be compressed with cotton pads, followed by Tooth Polishing.

  • 6.Following the procedure, it is recommended not to consume hot or warm foods or drinks, especially if bleeding occurs, for at least 12 hours. Some patients may experience sensitivity in their teeth after scaling, but this is a temporary phase that typically wears off within 3-5 days. If the sensitivity is severe, an antiseptic/antisensitivity mouthwash may be prescribed.

  • 7.We also highly recommended to start warm saline rinses 2-3 times a day after 24 hours of scaling, for at least 7 days, to help the gums heal.

  • 8.We will also show and explain the proper brushing techniques and oral hygiene methods to maintain the health of your gums, teeth, and oral cavity.

  • 9.We encourage our patients to schedule a follow-up visit after 7-10 days to check the health of their gums and teeth thus ensuring proper brushing techniques are being followed.

At Exl Dentist, we are dedicated to ensuring that our patients are well-informed and comfortable throughout their visit.

Our GOAL is to leave you with healthy teeth and gums and the knowledge on how to maintain it.
